How we operate

group of people talking
At KJB Law we get personal satisfaction from producing successful results for you in a cost-effective manner.

Commitment to client services

  • We strive to make the law less confusing.
  • We explain your options to you in plain English.
  • We work hard to find the best possible solution for your business, your family or yourself.
  • We provide prompt and efficient attention.
  • We keep you informed of progress on a regular basis by your preferred method of contact, whether by post, email or phone.
  • We ask you to feel free to call our office to discuss any questions, concerns or problems at any time.

Integrity and privacy

  • KJB Law considers the responsible use of clients' personal information to be of vital importance and you're assured that your privacy and confidentiality are always respected and protected. In this regard please take a moment to read over our Privacy Policy.
  • You can expect high-quality service, honesty and fairness in all your transactions.
  • KJB Law will disclose immediately any potential or actual conflict of interest that may arise and will ensure steps are taken to protect the integrity of your matter.
  • Our computer network is kept up-to-date with the latest anti-virus and anti-spyware technology.

Our fees

  • Professional fees are charged on either a fixed-fee or time-required basis, dependent on the nature of your matter. The hourly rate to be charged, and an estimate of any likely out-of-pocket expenses, will be advised to you at the start of your matter.
  • Free quotes can be provided based on an estimation of the work required.
  • You'll be notified immediately of any change in the hourly rate or of unexpected action that may result in fees higher than our initial estimate.
  • Accounts for work performed to date are provided monthly.
  • Residential Conveyancing – set fees plus disbursements are charged for established properties for NSW and ACT.
  • Compensation cases – your case will be conducted so you only pay the firm’s professional fees at the conclusion of the matter.
  • Disbursement items such as court fees, searches and enquiries, medical reports, etc, generally are required to be paid in advance.
  • Payment arrangements can be discussed.
  • We comply with the costs provisions set out in the Legal Profession Act 2006 (ACT) and in matters where professional costs are reasonably anticipated to exceed $1500 (plus GST) we will provide you with a Costs-Disclosure Statement and Costs Agreement as soon as practical.

KJB Law Trust Account

We operate a trust account on behalf of our clients with the Commonwealth Bank. The signatories to this account are three of the principals of KJB Law: Andrew Freer, Des Moore and Jo Twible.

Our trust account is operated in accordance with the strict rules as set out in the Legal Profession Act 2006 (ACT) and is audited by the ACT Law Society on a regular basis.

Our trust account doesn't accrue interest. Legislation directs interest payable on solicitors’ trust accounts to the funding of community legal services, and as such if we're likely to hold significant funds for a period we will discuss with you the option of opening an interest-bearing bank account on your behalf.
