Sarah's experience and expertise

Since her admission in 2013, Sarah has been privileged to work in many practice areas, including trusts, wills and estates law, retirement village law, business and commercial law, taxation law, the regulatory sector (including complex investigations), employment law, and family law.

She provides expert advice to a range of clients, including individuals, private companies, industry bodies, co-operatives, and charities.

Her practice focus includes advising on entry into retirement villages, estate planning and administration, business structuring, business succession planning, corporate governance, employment law, investigations, and privacy law.

Sarah is also familiar with the Defence environment and the legal requirements associated with handling classified information.

While living in Western Australia, she sat on a not-for-profit board for two years, and this gave her valuable insight into the challenges faced by board members dealing with day-to-day administration and larger tasks associated with running an organisation.

You know,  I really enjoy working with clients and taking the time to understand what's important to them, how best to meet their needs.

SARAH OZANNE

Senior Associate

Sarah enjoys working with clients and taking the time to understand what is important to them. Her broad depth of experience in many different areas of the law means she's well placed to advise clients on a broad spectrum of legal situations.

For example, the preparation of an estate plan or the administration of an estate may also involve advising in relation to, and assisting with, entry into or exiting from a retirement village, the restructure of a business, including advising in relation to employees, and reviewing existing trust structures.

She's a very effective advocate for her clients, always focussing on long-term legal strategies and practical results.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Laws with distinction (2012) from Murdoch University and is admitted in Western Australia, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory.

She was born and raised in Western Australia and moved to Canberra in 2023 with her husband. Luckily, Sarah is a fan of the cold weather!

Outside interests

Outside of work, Sarah is a classically trained singer and has performed in many community theatre productions with theatre groups in Western Australia, including sveeral Gilbert and Sullivan shows and Les Misérables.

She's also an experienced equestrian. Her horse, Tessa (Sarnia Contessa, in full), was bred by her family and was actually born on Halloween. Sarah has owned her since she was a foal.

"Most of the time, I find riding is an opportunity to relax and unwind — you need to leave your worries behind when you're riding or horses will pick up on it!" Sarah said wryly.

Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and pets, including Poppy, her 2-year-old female field spaniel. "These are considered a rare and vulnerable breed, but breeders here in Australia and abroad are working to change this," Sarah said.

"Poppy loves going on adventures, but is equally happy to snuggle up on the couch at home — she makes an excellent hot water bottle in winter!"
