David's law qualifications and life experience

David has a Bachelor of Law from Edith Cowan University and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Management from the Australian Graduate School of Management.

Starting his career in the Royal Australian Navy at 16, David travelled extensively in several roles, culminating with the position of Naval aircrewman in rotary wing aircraft.

"The photo below was taken in 1993, while I was serving as a member of the Royal Australian Navy on board a Navy hydrographic vessel," he says. "It shows the ship's helicopter transferring equipment for hydrographic survey work to Elcho Island which you can just make out in the distance.

"Elcho Island is part of the Cape Wessels archipelago in Arnhem Land, in the Northern Territory. Galiwin'ku is the only town on the island, and is also the Aboriginal name for the whole island.

"The photo is of sentimental value for me, in that the person hanging out of the helicopter on the right is actually a much younger me!"

On completion of his engagement, David held a variety of business management, service delivery, and sales positions across manufacturing, hospitality, finance, and membership organisations.

Operating a human resources consultancy while undertaking his studies allowed him to serve the local community as a Justice of the Peace in the West Australian Magistrates Court.

On admission to the Supreme Court of Western Australia, David practised family law along with estate planning and litigation. On moving to Canberra in 2020, he practised across a range of areas, including assisting Legal Aid clients, before moving to Yass to work across all areas in a country practice.
