Courtney's experience and expertise

Courtney graduated from the University of Canberra in 2022 with a Bachelor of Laws and, that same year, graduated from the College of Law with a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. She's admitted as a solicitor of the ACT Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia.

She's been practising exclusively in family law since she was formally admitted to the profession in 2022 and worked in a specialist family law firm before joining KJB Law.

She understands how stressful the legal process can be on clients and their families as a range of emotional, practical, and legal matters  need to be addressed.

Courtney always give honest advice and ensures that clients feel supported while they weigh up their options as they make what are often difficult and complex decisions.

She has a particular interest, but not limited to, family violence matters, divorces, property settlements, and parenting cases.

What draws you to these areas of the law?

"In divorce matters, property settlements, and parenting cases, I understand the importance of the family unit and that when there's a breakdown there, it's important to resolve family problems amicably and always protect the children’s best interests," she says. "If matters are dealt with amicably, the family unit can remain somewhat stable and provide the children with some sense of normalcy.

"In matters where there is family violence, I understand that a client may feel unsafe and worried about their children's safety, especially when there's a custody battle. Having volunteered for the Domestic Violence Crisis Service, I'm well informed that family violence is not always physical, and I always advocate for the rights of victims.

"Similarly, if a client is named as a respondent to a Family Violence Order or Personal Violence Order, I work with the client to defend any accusations and ensure they're properly informed of the process and the consequences of breaching the conditions of court orders."

She strives to assist clients in resolving their matter amicably and without the need for lengthy and costly court proceedings wherever possible and practical.

Outside of work, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She usually spends her down-time watching 1980s slasher films, or heading to the coast with her daughter, 9.
